There is hardly a need for an introduction with the volume of positive news and opportunities we cover in this newsletter, so let’s jump right in! Please make sure to read it in its entirety, as it’s full of important updates and timely calls to action.

Legal Update

A Milestone Reached

In case you missed it: we have reached a milestone in our federal legal case. Recently, U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth not only agreed to restore the previously dismissed Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act claim in our challenge to Revolution Wind, but scheduled summary judgment to begin on September 2nd—much sooner than we expected.

We are the first plaintiffs against any wind project to achieve this status in Federal Court, and Summary Judgement will play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the six claims we have been given standing in against Revolution Wind:

• Clean Water Act

• Endangered Species Act

• Marine Mammal Protection Act

• National Environmental Policy Act

• National Historic Preservation Act

• Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act

Why This Matters

This victory is significant, but it also brings increased legal expenses. We must raise sufficient funds to cover the costs of the Summary Judgment phase. Every contribution is vital to ensuring we can continue this fight for the health of our oceans—a legal bill left unpaid is a case that cannot continue!

Our recent social media post recording the noise from Revolution Wind’s piledriving activities has sparked a flurry of engagement. More than 2 million people have viewed the now viral video, and over 80,000 have interacted with it by leaving a comment or sharing it directly with others. Recent Federal Orders

Green Oceans applauds the Department of Interior’s recent order rescinding Designated Wind Energy Areas on the Outer Continental Shelf. This bold and definitive action by the U.S. Secretary Doug Burgum and the DOI Bureau of Ocean Management corrects misguided leasing policy practices for offshore wind development and puts fact-based, scientific data before speculative foreign entity interests. Army Corps of Engineers Petition Review

The Army Corps of Engineers recently confirmed that it is reviewing the Green Oceans’ petition to revoke Ørsted’s Revolution Wind permit. The petition cites a deeply flawed Public Interest Review that fatally tainted the Revolution Wind approval process and failed to comply with federal law. Read our press release here.

Save the Bay Letter

In a recent letter to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Save the Bay warns that Revolution Wind’s construction activities at Quonset Point pose a serious threat to human health and marine life in Narragansett Bay. They urge RIDEM to require better monitoring and mitigation of Revolution Wind’s pollution discharge exceedances. Discharges of arsenic, zinc, and total phenols were over 1000% beyond the discharge limits! Thanks to Save the Bay for doing their job and calling them out. Read the full letter here.

SouthCoast Wind Portsmouth Hearing

At SouthCoast Wind’s recent public comment hearing about their plan to run transmission cables from offshore turbines down the Sakonnet River and over part of Portsmouth, public opinion was clear: residents and locals do not support it. The hearing sparked a heated debate that lasted over four hours, with 24 speakers urging the R.I. Energy Facility Siting Board (EFSB) to reject the application.
